Steilemann to become new CEO of Covestro

Dr. Markus Steilemann has been appointed as new CEO of Covestro, effective from 1 October 2018. He succeeds Patrick Thomas, who will leave Covestro with his expiring contract on 30 September 2018.

Thomas has been at the top of the company for more than ten years and will be over 60 years old in fall 2018. Furthermore, on 2 June 2017 Covestro announced that Thomas will assume the role of interim CFO following the resignation of Frank H. Lutz. Steilemann is currently Chief Commercial Officer on the board of Covestro. He has enjoyed a long and international career with Bayer, joining the company in 1999 and Bayer MaterialScience in 2004. From 2008 onwards, he held various management functions in the Polycarbonates segment in Asia including Head of Global Industrial Marketing. Between 2013 and 2015, Steilemann headed the entire segment before being appointed to the Covestro board of management, where he was most recently responsible for innovation since 2015 and the entire Polyurethanes segment since 2016. He additionally became Chief Commercial Officer of Covestro in 2017.
