Polyurethane Foam Association Announces Dr. Herman Stone
Technical Excellence Award Winners


SAN DIEGO (November 14, 2017)—At its fall meeting, The Polyurethane Foam Association
(PFA) hosted a Technical program featuring a full agenda of six presentations by scientists from
companies around the world. After the program concluded, the audience voted to select the
winner of the Technical Excellence Award provided by the Dr. Herman Stone Family
Endowment.

Three presentations were honored:

First Place: “Introducing SlabProcessing and SlabExpert Digital Tools” (Presenter: Stephen
Hoskins, Covestro)

Second Place: “Why Is an Ultra-Open- Cell-Window Structure Important for Cooler Sleep in
Memory Foam Mattresses?” (Presenter: Wenbo Xu, The Dow Chemical Company)

Third Place: “Antimicrobial Treatment of Polyurethane Foams” (Presenter: Tom Robitaille,
Lonza Microbial Control)

“PFA’s Technical Programs are a key venue for showcasing new industry technology, and we
were pleased to have some very strong papers presented this fall,” said Robert Luedeka,
Executive Director of PFA. He noted that all presentations from the Technical Program will be

The Polyurethane Foam Association is a trade association founded in 1980 to help educate foam
users, allied industries and other stakeholders. PFA provides facts on environmental, health and
safety issues and technical information on the performance of FPF in consumer and industrial
products. FPF is used as a key comfort component in most upholstered furniture and mattress
products, along with automotive seating, carpet cushion, packaging, and numerous other
applications.
