ISPA: Bedding units dropped 9.3% in Q1

ALEXANDRIA, Va. – The bedding industry got off to a rough start in the first quarter, with units falling 9.3% and the wholesale dollar value of bedding shipments dropping 2.4%, an industry report said.

The first quarter Bedding Market Quarterly report, just released by the International Sleep Products Assn., showed declines for mattresses and foundations.

Mattress units were down 6.4% in the first quarter, while foundation units were down 13.1%. The wholesale dollar value of mattress shipments was down 1.1%, and the dollar value of foundations was down 10.3%, the ISPA report said.One bright spot: The average unit price jumped 7.6%, to $255.65. The average unit price for mattresses was up 5.6%, to $387.09, while it was up 3.2% for foundations, to $75.81, ISPA said.
