February sales of passenger vehicles slipped by 0.2% year on year. However, sales of light trucks were up by nearly 13%.
The February increase in new auto sales was said to be partially a result of pent-up demand from January, which saw sales fell by 0.3% year on year because bad weather delayed purchases.
Additionally, February had one more selling day this year compared with last year because of the Leap Year.
Among the three major automakers, Ford and Fiat Chrysler Automobiles (FCA) posted double-digit gains in February, up year on year by 20% and 12%, respectively.
General Motor sales in February slipped by 1.5% year on year.
