BASF declares force majeure on MDI system and TPU Elastollan products in North America

WYANDOTTE, MI, June 02, 2017 – BASF declared a force majeure in North America on methylene diphenyl diisocyanate (MDI) system and thermoplastic polyurethane (TPU) Elastollan® products as a direct result of weather related events that impacted Kinder Morgan’s St. Gabriel, Louisiana terminal.

Flood waters on the Mississippi River rose to a level of 29 feet, which caused unsafe operational conditions and the subsequent closure of Kinder Morgan’s terminal. This unforeseeable event resulted in BASF’s inability to procure the needed raw materials to manufacture MDI, impacting the ability to produce MDI system and TPU Elastollan products.

BASF is working with affected customers to minimize the impact on their business, and will continue to provide updates regarding supply capability.
