Feyyaz Omer Baskent, January 1, 1947 – May 18, 2024

Born in Ankara, Türkiye, his first loves being soccer, the sea, the sun, and speed boats, Feyyaz immigrated to this country in 1966 when he was 19 years old. He was fearless and courageous with a zest for life that was contagious.

In 1971 he was an All-American for Suny Broome Community College and played soccer at Binghamton University from 1971 to 1973, ranking 14th in the nation and being written up in the Hall of Fame, with historic victories, and conference championships, ending his collegiate soccer career in 1973 as Athlete of the Year.

He was an amazingly complex and intelligent man, earning his bachelor’s degree in chemistry in 1973, working for companies such as Union Carbide (now Dow Chemical), Great Western Foam Products, Foamex International, and FoamTech. He had 25 patents and made significant contributions to our world in the field of chemistry that we enjoy and appreciate today.

Feyyaz was a loving son, brother, husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and uncle. He was kind, and humbly and anonymously generous with a tremendous heart and enduring compassion. He had a will of iron and lived life with pride and conviction. His presence was a force to be reckoned with and his impact on all of us is great and will be felt deeply through eternity.

Feyyaz is survived by his 2 brothers, 4 children, 1 grandson, 2 great grandchildren, 2 sisters in law, 3 nephews, 1 son in law, and 2 former wives.
