1936 – 2018 Obituary

FRANK NOLD Obituary
FRANK NOLD Frank Patrick Nold entered eternal life June 3, 2018, in Henderson. He was born February 27, 1936, in Detroit, Michigan, to Daniel Arthur Nold and Della Blue Laisure Nold. Frank lived a full, successful life with his beautiful wife, Frances “Ellen” Nold. They had four children, Michael Nold of LaSalle, Michigan, Joseph Nold of Las Vegas, Jeannie (Bruce) Cloud of Macomb Township, Michigan, and Daniel (Courtenay) Nold of Noblesville, Indiana. Frank started his military career in 1953 as a flight engineer for the U.S. Air Force, and served in the tail end of the Korean War. Frank was honorably discharged in 1957. In 1956, Frank joined Seymour Lichter in a new venture and they founded Foam Rubber Products in Detroit, Michigan. They later moved to Monroe, Michigan before landing in their final destination of New Castle, Indiana. During his early career, Frank attended Wayne State University. Frank was instrumental in developing a patent for a bonded foam process which later became the basis of school bus seats. He testified in front of Congress on several occasions regarding school bus seat regulations and was instrumental in the push for safer school bus seats and backs.
In 1963, Frank opened a branch of Foam Rubber Products in Biloxi, Mississippi to service Lazy Boy Furniture. Before his retirement in 2014, he had grown Foam Rubber Products into a multi-plant, multi-state corporation that had started on a second floor in a rented warehouse. During his lifetime, Frank opened many business ventures across the United States. He was a true entrepreneur.
Frank loved to boat and every summer, he would circumnavigate around Lake Superior seeing the beautiful scenery in his yacht, the Jean Marie, the Jean Marie II, the Jean Marie III and the Jean Marie IV. After giving up boating, he and Ellen purchased an RV and went across the country traveling to see the western states and Mexico. Although he was not as fond of the RV as he was the yacht, he did enjoy his time with Ellen. Frank was a very philanthropic with his success, although he never wanted it published. He was instrumental in building a new animal shelter in New Castle, Indiana, donated to many local and national charities and would sometimes just hand money to someone he knew was down on their luck to help them jump start back. He loved to give gifts and he never wanted a thanks or anything in return.
Frank was a man of high integrity and was fiercely loyal to his friends and family. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Ellen Nold; and his sister, Jane Roy. Frank leaves behind his current spouse, Maria; brother, Daniel (Rene) Nold of St. Petersburg, Florida; sons, Michael, Joseph and Daniel; son-in-law, Bruce; daughter, Jeannie (who until the end was the apple of his eye); daughter-in-law, Courtenay; grandchildren, Patrick, Joseph and Michael Nold, Colin Cloud, Whitney and Daniel Nold, and Heather Winner; four great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
