Future Foam is planning an expansion and new jobs in Newton.

The Newton City Commission this week approved a 10-year, 100-percent tax abatement to help the company add 77,000 square feet to its manufacturing facility at 520 S. Payton in Newton.

Joe Eickman, plant manager for Future Foam’s Newton facility, says the expansion will also result in the hiring of seven new employees to give it a total workforce of 85.

It’s growth, he says, that’s needed to ensure the plant can meet increasing demand from its customers.

“We have several new pieces of equipment we’re putting in and our volume is growing here,” Eickman says.

Work on the $5.4 million project is expected to begin in September and be completed in August 2019.

Regier Construction Inc. is the general contractor.

Future Foam is based in Council Bluffs, Iowa. Its Newton facility manufactures polyurethane foam used in a variety of products, including furniture and carpet pads.
