I-79 NB and SB down to one lane near Clendenin due to overturned tanker

A tanker rolled over around 1:00 a.m. Wednesday, closing the southbound and northbound lanes of Interstate 79 in Kanawha County.

UPDATE 12/16/15 @ 6:20 a.m.
KANAWHA COUNTY, W.Va. (WSAZ) — Both I-79 northbound and southbound fast lanes remain closed near the Clendenin exit following a tanker rollover early Wednesday morning.

Emergency crews have removed the driver from the cab of the truck and transported him to the hospital. There is no word on the extent of his injuries but they are not believed to be life-threatening.

Another tanker is at the scene removing the remaining polyol so the overturned tractor trailer can be towed from the median. Officials estimate over 2,000 pounds of the material spilled into the median.

Polyol is not a hazardous material.

Officials with the Clendenin Volunteer Fire Department say it could be noon until the interstate fully reopens.

KANAWHA COUNTY, W.Va. (WSAZ) — One lane Northbound and one lane Southbound of Interstate 79 have re-opened after a crash near the Clendenin exit.

A tractor trailer overturned about 1 Wednesday morning.

Emergency crews say the tanker is leaking Polyol, a substance used in some foods and the creation of polyurethane materials. This is a non-hazardous material.

Metro 911 dispatchers say the driver is entrapped in the cab of the semi, he is conscious and crews are working to safely remove him from the cab. Crews do not believe he has serious injuries.

KANAWHA COUNTY, W.Va. (WSAZ) — The northbound and southbound lanes of Interstate 79 at the 9 and 25 mile markers are closed due to an overturned tanker.

Southbound traffic is being diverted from exit 19 to exit 25. Northbound is being shutdown while a crews work to pull the tanker right-side-up.

The tanker crashed into the median around 1:00 a.m. Wednesday. Emergency crews say the tanker is leaking Polyol, a substance used in some foods and the creation of polyurethane materials. This is a non-hazardous material.
