Tuft & Needle Uses CertiPUR-US Training

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Tuft & Needle Mandates Company-wide CertiPUR-US® Certificate Training
Ecommerce mattress-company implements company-wide training on CertiPUR-US® certification to
continue its commitment of bringing transparency to the mattress industry
PHOENIX (June 23, 2017) – Tuft & Needle has furthered its commitment to exemplary customer
experience by implementing company-wide training about the CertiPUR-US® certified foam used in all
its mattresses. Tuft & Needle has mandated its entire staff of more than 140 employees to complete the
online certificate course.
“Consumers deserve transparency so they understand purchase decisions,” said Aaron Bata, head of
customer experience for Tuft & Needle. “Particularly with a product that you look to for rest and peace of
mind each night, we believe it is important for every single member of our team to be able to speak to the
benefits of the materials we use in our products.”
“We appreciate Tuft & Needle’s support of our program and their dedication to educating their staff on
the importance of providing accurate information to consumers. They were the first company to embrace
our new certificate program so enthusiastically,” said Mike Crowell, executive director of the CertiPUR-
US program.
According to Bata, it is ingrained in Tuft & Needle’s culture and standards that every team member
should be well-informed about the company’s products – and about the mattress industry as a whole – in
order to bring greater transparency to an industry that historically has been characterized by extreme
information asymmetry.
To be CertiPUR-US certified, the flexible polyurethane foam in the mattress must be made without ozone
depleters; PBDEs, TDCPP, TCEP and certain other flame retardants; formaldehyde; mercury, lead and
other heavy metals; prohibited phthalates regulated by the CPSC; and are low VOC emissions for indoor
air quality (less than 0.5 parts per million).
Tuft & Needle’s T&N ADAPTIVE Foam meets the CertiPUR-US standards for content, emission and
durability and has been analyzed by independent, accredited testing laboratories. Certified foams must be
re-certified after six months the first year, and annually thereafter.
The CertiPUR-US® course, which culminates with a Certificate of Knowledge, equips participants with
the appropriate tools and details to portray Tuft & Needle’s T&N ADAPTIVE Foam as CertiPUR-US
certified. The interactive course explains what it takes to meet the CertiPUR-US® program's rigorous
guidelines to achieve certification, and how important it is to make only accurate claims about the
program.
