Wanhua: pursues goal of building MDI plant in the US

Wanhua stated on 2 November 2019, that it will pursue the goal of building a MDI plant in the US. The company previously pulled out of plans to build a new facility in St. James Parish, Louisiana, partly due to tariff war and resistance from residents and environmental groups.

During the preliminary design process, the project was rapidly changed due to the external environment, according to the company. Investment costs have increased significantly, and the company is reassessing the scope and location of US projects. Although the US MDI project has encountered some difficulties and challenges, the company still plans to have a production capacity of 400 kt MDI products in the United States.

The company announced that before the US project is put into production, it will continue to supply the North American market through the supply of existing products from China and Europe to ensure stable supply.
