BASF testet erneut TDI-Anlage in Ludwigshafen
Dreieinhalb Jahre nach dem geplanten Start ein neuer Vorstoß: Wie der Chemiekonzern BASF mitteilt, geht die Ludwigshafener Anlage zur Produktion der Chemikalie TDI erneut in den Testbetrieb.
Das Kunststoff-Vorprodukt TDI wird weltweit unter anderem für die Herstellung von Sitzpolstern in der Auto- und Möbelindustrie eingesetzt. Bis der Chemiekonzern mit der Anlage voll in Betrieb gehen kann, werde es aber noch einige Wochen dauern, teilte eine Sprecherin mit. Zunächst müssten verschiedene Einzelteile der Anlage getestet werden.
Tausende Tonnen von krebserregendem Stoff in Matratzen gelangt
Erst im März hatte das Milliardenprojekt einen neuen Reaktor bekommen. Die BASF hatte immer wieder Probleme mit der Anlage. Zuletzt war durch einen technischen Defekt mehrere Wochen lang ein krebserregender Stoff in das TDI gelangt, aus dem unter anderem Matratzen hergestellt wurden. Die BASF musste tausende Tonnen zurückrufen, ein Schaden von 30 Millionen Euro entstand. Künftig will die BASF, mit der Anlage im Jahr rund 300.000 Tonnen der weltweit gefragten Chemikalie TDI produzieren.

“Three and a half years after the planned start, a new push: As the chemical company BASF announced, the Ludwigshafen plant for the production of the chemical TDI is again in the test mode.
“The plastic precursor TDI is used worldwide, among other things for the production of seat cushions in the automotive and furniture industry. But it will take a few more weeks before the chemical company can fully go into operation with the plant, a spokeswoman said. First of all, various individual parts of the system would have to be tested.
Thousands of tons of carcinogenic material gets into mattresses
“Only in March, the billion-dollar project had a new reactor. BASF has always had problems with the system. Most recently, a carcinogenic substance had been in the TDI for several weeks due to a technical defect, from which, among other things, mattresses were produced. BASF had to recall thousands of tons, resulting in damages of 30 million euros. In the future, BASF intends to produce around 300,000 tonnes of the globally popular chemical TDI per year.”
