PUdaily, Shanghai-According to research from PUdaily, there are mainly 6 suppliers exporting TDI to Southeast Asia and India markets, among which South Korea and Japan rank as the leading suppliers. Indonesia and India have taken the top 2 largest TDI consumption portions. However, Indian market has decreased its TDI imports because India has built his own facility with capacity of 50 kt/year, which reduces its dependence on TDI import and more or less decreases the market impacts from the flowing up of imported TDI price. (More details please refer to table 1, 2 and 3 below)

Looking at the spot market, TDI price has been rising increasingly in Southeast Asia and India markets since TDI plant in Omuta ran into refrigerating malfunction in late March. Besides, another TDI facility with capacity of 117 kt/year in Kashima, in March, 2016, has shut down permanently. At present, the spot price in Southeast Asia and India markets has climbed to USD 1,850-1,950/ton CIF, up by USD 400-450/ton because of the slump of TDI supply. To deal with the short supply, South Korea, as the largest supplier in that market (more details please refer to table 2 and 3 above), has operated its facilities with full loads. However, it is really a drop in the ocean to meet their demands. It is predicted that TDI price would decline at the beginning of June.
TDI buyers in Southeast Asia and India markets can negotiate and cooperate with foreign trading company from China to secure Chinese supply. China’s market demands on TDI have maintained sluggish running from January to March in 2016. Many manufacturers suffer from slow deliveries and most quote at prices lower by historical standards. China’s TDI plants have a strong desire to expand overseas exports. Thusly, there must be some way for both parties to reach win-win cooperation.
Additionally, TDI consultant from PUdaily said that it is now the peak season for TDI demands in Southeast Asia and India markets, and only by improving supply chains, broadening TDI sources and making full use of native TDI facility (if possible for countries related) can the market stand the impacts from TDI import price boosting.
